RAID 5:
This is also known as disk striping with parity। This is mostly used type of RAID. It requires three or more disks. This level stripes the parity information evenly across all the disks in array. This is how this level eliminates the write bottleneck present in level 4. Now the only performance bottleneck is parity calculation process and this too has not been any problem with modern fast CPUs. If one disk fails, the lost information can be reconstructed with the help of parity information on remaining disks.
This level has good performance। The storage capacity of this level is equal to the capacity of member disks ( or partitions ) minus capacity of one disk ( or partition ), which is similar to RAID 4.
Linear RAID:
It is simple grouping of multiple drives to create a large virtual drive. In this RAID, the parts are allocated sequentially from one disk to another disk only when the first is filled completely. This level neither provides performance benefit nor redundancy. Only benefit that seems is the capacity, which is total of all the member disks.
