IP version 6

The way IPv6 has been configured; accordingly IPv4 address is easy to be converted into IPv6 address. For example, equivalent IPv6 address for IPv4 address 192.168.1.72, will be ::192.168.1.72.


IPv6 addresses are described in hexadecimal numbers also. The hexadecimal number has 16 numbers, viz: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F (where A=10, B=11, C=12, D=13, E=14, F=15). The example of Hexadecimal notation is give hereunder:


59A2 : 2C13 : 5218 : 0000 : 0F84 : 0001 : EB9C : 1D57


We can easily change IPv4 decimal notation to hexadecimal notation. For this, first we will have to write IPv4 address in binary notation, as following:


11000000 10101000 0000001 01001000


Now instead of 8 bit group we will have to write these in group of 4 bits. This is as under:


1100 0000 1010 1000 0000 0001 0100 1000
