Transmission media
Transmission media carries the data in form of 1s and 0s. This data can be sent either in form of electrical impulses on copper wire; light impulses on optical fiber cable or even as the radio waves in the air. The transmission media works at Physical layer of the OSI model.
For star topology, the cables used are called as unshielded twisted pair. Its category 5e or 6 is the most common type of wiring used in today’s LAN. The connector used is RJ45. The Ethernet interfaces used today are either 100 Base-TX (100 MBPS) or 1000 Base-TX (1000 MBPS).
